Meditation in Westchester

Vajra Light Buddhist Center is a non-profit Buddhist meditation center in Westchester, NY. We offer instruction in meditation and Buddhist spiritual practice through meditation classes, retreats and special events.  Taught by qualified Western teachers, Vajra Light's meditation classes are very easy to understand and apply to our daily lives.  The classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced meditation practitioners.


Where to Start

All of the classes listed below are part of our General Program (GP) and are open to anyone to attend on a drop-in basis. Classes are especially designed to help busy, modern people find more inner peace and happiness. No prior experience with Buddhism or meditation is necessary. Meditation, Mindfulness and the Limitless Nature of the Mind


According to the great meditator yogis of the past, the best method to improve our mindfulness and concentration is the meditation on the nature of the mind. In this series, we will explore this deeply relaxing and profoundly illuminating meditation, in particular how to improve our experience of it so that we actualize for ourselves its many benefits.


Tuesday Lunchtime Meditation

Every Tuesday, 12:15-12:45pm

Simply Breathe

During these half hour sessions we are guided through a simple breathing meditation. This type of meditation is perfect for beginners and advanced meditators. By focusing on the breath all our worries, distractions, and obsessive ways of thinking fall away and we experience inner peace. Our mind is refreshed and relaxed and we’ll find it easier to deal with day-to day-stress.

How To Transform Your Life

This series of classes is based on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s book How to Transform Your Life. This practical manual for daily life shows how we can develop authentic inner peace, overcome daily problems, and bring about positive changes in our life that enable us to experience deep and lasting happiness. Each class consists of guided meditations and clear explanations, as well as an opportunity to ask questions.


Wednesday Lunchtime Meditation

A Joyful Path

Joy is a state of mind. In these lunchtime meditations we will meditate on different Buddhist views that lead us along the Joyful Path to actualizing our potential. These meditations are based on Lamrim, the backbone of Kadampa Buddhism.

Meditation: Discovering Our Joy and Inner Purpose

In this series, perfect both for newcomers and more experienced meditators, we will explore the relationship between meditation, happiness and a deeper sense of purpose in our lives.
