Meditation in Westchester
Vajra Light Buddhist Center is a non-profit Buddhist meditation center in Westchester, NY. We offer instruction in meditation and Buddhist spiritual practice through meditation classes, retreats and special events. Taught by qualified Western teachers, Vajra Light's meditation classes are very easy to understand and apply to our daily lives. The classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced meditation practitioners.
Where to Start
All of the classes listed below are part of our General Program (GP) and are open to anyone to attend on a drop-in basis. Classes are especially designed to help busy, modern people find more inner peace and happiness. No prior experience with Buddhism or meditation is necessary. Everyone is welcome! How to Transform Your Life
EVERY SUNDAY, 10:30AM-12:00pm
This series of classes is based on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s book How to Transform Your Life. This practical manual for daily life shows how we can develop authentic inner peace, overcome daily problems, and bring about positive changes in our life that enable us to experience deep and lasting happiness. Each class consists of guided meditations and clear explanations, as well as an opportunity to ask questions.
Nurturing Your Pure Nature
EVERY TuESDAY, 7:00-8:30PM
In this series, perfect both for newcomers and those more experienced, we will explore the relationship between meditation, happiness, and a deeper sense of purpose in our lives. Buddhist meditation teaches us how to access and maintain inner joy, even when experiencing difficulties. Nurturing the pure nature of our mind opens us up to recognizing and identifying with the potential for happiness, love and other good qualities that exist within each and every one of us. This empowers us with a sense of purpose in our life, an inner drive to actualize our unbelievable potential so that we can be of real benefit to our family, friends and everyone throughout our world. The emphasis will be on how to integrate our practice of training the mind with every aspect of our life: work, family, friends, down-time, etc.

Learning to meditate is the best way to overcome stress and keep a positive, relaxed attitude to life. Through following practical, down-to-earth instructions, everyone can learn to meditate. In this class, you will learn the basics from why we would want to meditate to how to do it. How long do we meditate? What do we focus on? What are some techniques to help us overcome distractions? This class includes guided meditations and a question and answer session.

Medicine Buddha is the embodiment of all enlightened healing energy. The empowerment is a beautiful guided meditation through which we'll receive the powerful blessings of this enlightened being. All of us have had to deal with physical or mental illness, either our own, or that of a loved one. Where do these illnesses come from and is there a way to heal them? If we are willing to work at the deepest levels of body and mind, we can remove the most subtle causes of illness through the practice of Medicine Buddha. It is said that the power of this practice becomes greater as confusion and conflict in this world increase, so this practice is especially vital for us now.
